Marcello Mastroianni plays about as different a character from Divorce as he probably can. That said, the film seemed pretty dull on the whole—a waste of really nice, moody cinematography, and a beautiful set. I’d like to watch it again sometime, to give it another chance, but for now I can’t help feeling somewhat let down by Visconti. I’d like to see how Bresson tackles the same story.
